Gender Sensitive Community Development


Gender sensitive community development component focused on the formation, strengthening and consolidation of community organizations in the program area and formed by different communities and to develop the linkages with other organization /NGO for sustainable development.

picAJKCDP Social mobilization team also focused an uncovered and deprived village for new COs formation  as well as to strengthen the  organized COs for  improving the human resources and technical capabilities of poor through the need base capacity building initiatives and support the COs to developed the capital formations through saving  and also developed the community pool  by providing the matching fund  for different  income generating activities like  livestock development ,small scale enterprise development and  agriculture related activities , further is to established the institutional  linkages with the public private and other agencies for sustainable development.

  • To organize and strengthen the male, female and mixed community organizations.
  •  Mobilization, organization, and capacity building for establishing male, female or mixed COs
  • To enhancement the COs need base skill  through trainings and small loans to be provided particularly to the developing women
  • To developed the linkage with NGOs for technical assistance to ensure the community development
  • Income generation activity can be promoted through selected qualified NGOs/ institutions for the unemployment valuable segment  of the community
  •  To developed the good governess with communities and line department  for better participation  and confidence building measure & leadership skill to be enhanced
  • Community Physical Infrastructure based activities to be done for the ensuring investment made & conservational management of natural recourses to be utilized.

Annual Work plan & Budget

An exercise was conducted   in April 2008 in all districts of AJK to prepare the Annual Work Plan & Budget for achieving the targets and minimizes the gaps of program well in time and to plan the activities with the coordination of all project stakeholders.
As per PC-1 approved 12 field units has been established in seven Districts of AJK and  recruitment process has been completed various training program in collaboration of FAO-UTF have planned to build up and enhance the capacity of COs as well as cluster organizations ,these efforts will  strengthen the grass root intuitions
Gender sensitive community development component has prepared a plan to cover the area which was not touched by any projects or NGO. Social organizers are making their efforts to motivate the target group in these areas to organize themselves into Community originations on different location according geographic proximity.
In ordered to promote the local organization, exposure visits of field staff, clusters and COs activists has plan within and out of AJK to enable them to exchange their idea for understanding the development process.

Achievements

As per PC-1 gender sensitive community development component targets of new COs formation was 1265 and COs strengthening target was 2835 for project period while the achievements as of December 31, 2008 new COs formation is 542 and COs strengthening in 1504 total organization established till now is 1546 the rest of target continuous approach to achieved within next financial years.  During the planning it has decided that those area which were not accessed by any organization, AJKCDP social mobilization team will approach remote area and introduce the program packages with community and organize the community on the bases of potential and willingness, this process has adopt and achieving the targets.
Under the FAO-UTF COs village development Plan prepared and executes the different training program for   imparting knowledge of organizes communities as well as, Cluster organizations. In ordered to understand the participatory development approach activist of different COs identify and prioritize their training needs and that training has conducted on priority bases for local community, field staff as well as relevant department on monthly and quarterly basis for maintain the saving micro credit as well as membership, record at COs and office level and to develop the need base formats for community.

On the recommendation of community activists exposure visits of selected community members were carried out for improving the capacity learning and awareness  from others organizations experience for better utilization of human as well as natural resources and  so that they understand about the issues of other areas.

AJKCDP is also focusing the proper village banking mechanism at COs as well as cluster and local support organization level and it very important to establish for local institution development i.e. saving is the most important indicators regarding active participation of the community members in the local level intervention however more than 110 male, female and mix COs has benefited to the micro credit program.
Further in order to launch an impact based program activities, different type of resource material which was already kept in prepared form and distributed in the CO, cluster and target group for creating the awareness about AJKCDP. However the dormant COs of Integrated Land Management (ILM) and Islamic Relief (IR) who have already established CO but are currently inactive Social mobilization team conduct the reactivation process such as meeting training sessions are very helpful for facilitating to income generation opportunities and economic empowerment of the gender in the areas during the sessions with  target group, method the identification of inactive COs, approaches for reactivating/strengthening and sustain the activation phase for a longer period of time until the community themselves take the responsibility of running the CO.

Another important element for community members is to establish healthy relation with other line agency NGO, INGO who are engaged in developmental activities for CO self sustainability however during the project period maximum effort were made to contact the inactive COs for reactivation it is milestone for AJKCDP that more than 1504 community organization, strengthening and that COs playing vital role in the process of consolidation and program expansion in the area.

District level break up of tentative annual work plan of gender sensitization also took place under the ‘Gender Sensitized Development Component’. The activities were conducted in close collaboration with social organizers and district program officers and number of workshops conducted for new COs formation and COs strengthening on different locations achievements is as follows.
